An Upper East Side landmark where fashion’s most iconic names begin their night.
With interiors by Jacques Grange, every suite at The Mark is a study in quiet luxury: velvet-lined, art-filled, and thoughtfully appointed down to the finest detail. There are monogrammed pillows on request, dining by Jean-Georges, and a bell team known for packing couture gowns with the precision of museum archivists.
Find out how New York’s most boldly lavish hotel prepares for the biggest night in fashion.
During Met Gala weekend, the hotel transforms into a discreet fashion atelier. Entire suites are repurposed into workrooms for seamstresses flown in from the world’s most esteemed fashion houses to perfect each garment by hand. Close to 10,000 fresh flowers arrive the day before the Gala, crafted into bespoke arrangements throughout the property.
From 6 a.m. to noon, over 200 coffees are served, with 48 cups brewed every 15 minutes to keep the energy flowing behind the scenes.
A dedicated team of forty orchestrates every moment of departure — tracking elevator movements, coordinating black cars, and when necessary, reversing traffic flow to ensure a seamless exit amid a sea of flashing cameras. Even the red carpet is custom-designed and cut to accommodate the hotel’s planters, laid into place by a team of ten.
The Mark’s entrance has become an international media moment in its own right, drawing over five billion impressions across the globe. It is the unofficial red carpet before the red carpet.
At its pinnacle sits the largest penthouse suite in the United States: a five-bedroom, two-floor residence with panoramic views over Manhattan and Central Park from its private rooftop terrace.
This suite is among the first booked each year for the Met Gala, often reserved by the same client to host one of the evening’s most sought-after afterparties.
