As we wrap up our Women’s Month series at MAIA, we take a moment to highlight Jetaime Alamo, Senior Account Executive. With a passion for creative storytelling and a keen eye for detail and engaging content, Jetaime has been a driving force behind many of MAIA’s successes.
In this feature, Jetaime reflects on the experiences that have shaped her career, the invaluable lessons passed down by the motherly figures in her life, and the importance of uplifting women in the industry.
What does Women’s Month mean to you personally, and how do you see its significance in the workplace?
I believe Women’s Month is an important time for reflection, celebration, and inspiration. I often read, watch, and hear about the achievements and incredible strides women from all walks of life have made to pave the way for what we enjoy today. Women’s Month serves as a reminder of the contributions of all women – whether historical figures, my mother, or my female friends – and highlights the need to support and uplift one another, fostering an environment where women can thrive and succeed.
At MAIA, Women’s Month is a wonderful month to celebrate progress and empowerment. The diverse voices and perspectives within the team inspire me to be more creative and innovative, to take up space, and move with a heart full of empathy.
How do you believe MAIA supports and empowers women within the company and the broader industry?
I’ve had the privilege of getting to know Shadi’s passion and vision for MAIA throughout my time here, and I truly believe and appreciate how she values and champions every woman’s well-being, beliefs, and pursuits.
MAIA has always been a safe and supportive workplace where women uplift one another. Each woman on the team embodies warmth, encouragement, and kindness – much like an older or younger sister would. It’s a wonderful dynamic that extends beyond our team to our clients, industry peers, and beyond.
Can you share a moment at MAIA when you felt particularly empowered or proud of your work?
It’s hard to pick just one moment that made me feel proud and empowered, but I would say it’s the numerous instances when I’ve had the chance to receive invaluable advice from my senior female colleagues or have been given heartfelt compliments. These moments of mentorship and recognition have been incredibly empowering and have played a significant role in my professional growth.
Additionally, the monthly MAIA awards and shoutouts have been a wonderful way of recognizing each other’s efforts. Whether it’s a formal award or a simple shoutout, these acknowledgments have made me (and I’m sure the rest of the team) feel truly seen and heard within the organization.
Who are the women, either within or outside the industry, who have inspired you, and in what ways have they influenced your professional journey?
Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to be surrounded by inspiring women both within and outside the hospitality industry. I look up to several of my colleagues in the office, clients, and other key-leaders in the hospitality industry for their wisdom in both work and life. Their unwavering dedication and professionalism have shown me the importance of perseverance and patience in such a fast-paced industry.
How has your mother or a motherly figure in your life influenced your career choices and professional development?
My mum has always been a source of inspiration, embodying self-belief and independence. She taught me to explore my interests with confidence and to pursue opportunities without fear.
As well, her love for hotels and restaurants sparked my own fascination with the industry from a young age. Through her, I’ve learned the power of resilience, kindness, and authenticity – values that continue to guide me in both my professional and personal life.
Can you share a specific lesson or piece of wisdom from your mother or a motherly figure that has guided you in your career?
My mum has been a guiding force in pivotal decisions I’ve made, from choosing my field of study in university to encouraging me to take the career path I’m currently in. One of the most impactful pieces of wisdom she shared with me is to make decisions not solely based on my abilities, but more importantly on my passions, emphasizing the importance of doing what I love and listening to my heart.
What advice would you give to other women aspiring to enter the luxury travel and hospitality PR industry?
Luxury travel and hospitality industry is such a remarkable industry to be in. A beautiful property has the magical ability to leave a lasting imprint, influence one to care for the environment, turning moments into unforgettable memories, and making every day feel like it’s bathed in sunshine.
My advice is to never lose sight of the beauty of exceptional hospitality, even when you know what goes on behind the scenes. There’s a certain charm in understanding the behind-the-scenes workings, as it reveals the meticulous efforts of the teams that make an experience so memorable. This might remove the rose-tinted glasses, but it also provides a deeper appreciation for the artistry involved.
What legacy do you hope to leave for future generations of women at MAIA and beyond?
I hope to leave a legacy of empowerment and empathy at MAIA and beyond. I aspire to create an environment where women feel supported, encouraged, and confident in all their abilities and quirks.
At MAIA, I aim to foster a culture of collaboration and mutual respect, where diversity is celebrated and everyone’s unique perspectives are embraced.
